Following the success of leading singles “RABBITHOLE”, “ALL THESE KIDS”, as supported by BBC Radio 1’s
Jack Saunders, and “9 LIVES”, global hit-maker Emei has unveiled her highly anticipated EP, ‘RABBITHOLE’.
Featuring two brand-new singles, this body of work was heavily inspired by the classic film Alice In
Wonderland as Emei leads us through a tale of love, friendship, young adulthood, mental health, and more.
Dubbed by Spotify as an “Artist To Watch” in 2024, the luminary is empowering the younger generation
with her trailblazing sound. Fresh off the back of her live session with BBC Radio 1’s Mollie King on the
‘Future Pop’ show, where only 12 artists a year are chosen to perform, it’s evident Emei has made quite the
impression.
Baring all in this candid and genre-bending EP, ‘RABBITHOLE’ is heavily inspired by the world of Alice In
Wonderland. Resonating with the film’s narrative, each song represents a different room in Emei’s mind.
Taking listeners on a journey that exploits the highs and lows of a young woman navigating life’s intricacies,
Emei hands us the keys to each room enabling a safe space for listeners that many will resonate with
worldwide.
Opening the EP with “RABBITHOLE” a visceral experience of falling, panic, and mental turmoil that
emphasises Emei’s determination to fight a panic attack that not even breathing exercises can save, we swiftly
move into “ALL THESE KIDS”. Produced by Timfromthehouse (Tove Lo, 5SOS, Pussy Riot, Icona Pop,
Girli) and hit-maker Yung Bae, the self proclaimed “Queen of Hearts” of the EP walks fans through a luxurious
jazz bar whilst Emei puts on a confident front yet behind closed doors, her world feels as though it’s falling
apart, “I imagine there being two of me in this song, one scared while watching and listening to this confident
version of me, and the other on a throne screaming at the other”, Emei explained. Posing as the first acoustic
drop from the singer-songwriter “9 LIVES” navigates her frustrations as she begins to fear that one day the
people who love and support her will give up. Set against a simplistic background, Emei’s spellbinding
lyricism sits centre stage in this captivating listen. Stumbling into the focus track “SUGARCOAT”, the tea party
of the EP, Emei finds comfort in knowing that everything will be okay and continues to sugarcoat the bad parts
of her life. Closing out the project with “THE PART”, the ascension out of the rabbithole, this track houses
production from Boyblue [Suki Waterhouse, Natalie Jane, Sueco, MAX] and emphasises the transitional
growth between her younger self as Emei embraces maturity and steps into adulthood.
Speaking on the meaning behind the EP Emei shared, “This entire EP, Rabbithole, was inspired by my anxiety
and panic attacks, descending through the pressures of young adult life around love, friendship, and career
pressures as well, and mostly the pressure I put on myself. This project was heavily inspired by the world of Alice
in Wonderland, emulating each scene through the classic story. Each song is a different room in my brain as you
git init && git add -A && git commit -m "Initial commit"descend into the rabbithole, ultimately ascending back
into reality through The Part”
Emei’s meteoric rise in the music industry is underscored by endorsements from top-tier publications such
as Teen Vogue, METAL Magazine, NOTION, DORK, 1883 Magazine, Billboard, The Face, Flaunt, Notion,
People Magazine, Wonderland, Ones To Watch, Lyrical Lemonade, and many more. Her genre-defying
music has already received international attention having caught the attention of BBC Radio 1 DJs Jack
Saunders, Maia Beth, and Mollie King, who have highlighted her songs with multiple “single of the week”
selections alongside triple j, SYN, and Joy FM. Attending studio sessions with some of LA’s leading producers
including Timfromthehouse (Tove Lo, 5sos, Pussy Riot, Icona Pop, Girli) and Matt Kahane (David Kushner,
Renforshort, Cian Ducrot, Jessie Reyez), Emei’s hit “Scatterbrain” was featured in Spotify’s Best Pop Songs of
2023, listed as the “Poppest Record of The Week” by BBC Radio 1, and named one of Spotify's Pop
Rising’s “Artists To Watch in 2024.” Securing further playlisting from Spotify in ‘New Music Friday US’
[+Deutschland, Philippines, France, NL, Indonesia, India, Suomi, Malaysia, Thailand, Switzerland,
Singapore, BE, Vietnam, Korea, China], ‘teen beats’, ‘Pop Sauce’, ‘young & free’, ‘SALT’, ‘Singled Out’ and
‘New Pop Picks’. Emphasising her surging success, Emei was selected by the Goldhouse Committee in
partnership with Live Nation and Spotify for their 2024 programme, and partnered with Riot Games
for the Valorant World Championship at the Kia forum to a crowd of 20,000 people.
2024 continues to showcase Emei’s breakthrough status, marked by sold-out shows across her US and EU
tours. Starting with 2 intimate sell outs in London in July of 2023, Emei hit the road for her debut HL tour
selling out every date. In a matter of months Emei jumped from double headers in 250 cap rooms, to shows at The El Rey Los Angeles, Gramercy Theatre New York and The Garage in London. Her social media presence
has surged, with over 500k new followers, bringing her total online reach to over 4 million. Announcing her
headline tour ‘RABBITHOLE’, Emei will be jet-setting across the UK, EU and US as of February 2025 for
an astounding 37 show extravaganza.
